    Propane Tankss

I have a couple of 20 lb propane tanks that have “expired”. My local propane supplier will no longer refill them because they are out of date.

Where do you take these old tanks to dispose of them?

The local propane company charges a few bucks to "recertify" them. Honestly they just pencil whip a sticker or tag or something on it and take a few bucks of your money,

Go to Home depot and use their trade out system. They have no requirement as far as I know as to being out of date. Then you can use the new take and fill it wherever you want.

This tank is larger than a grilling size. Can’t just swap it out. Done that with my other smaller tanks.

Ohhh ok... for some reason I thought 20 - 30 lb was the normal grilling size.

When I need my oxy act tanks certified I use Holston Gas.

From my farm (live in town now) I have a 300 gal tank. Local propane dealer set me up with the connections and hose to take from my big tank and I fill up 5 20lb tanks. Use it to heat my garage. Will take a long time to pay for that hose though...expensive. But now I have cheap propane to heat with. Can't have a 300 gal tank in city limits....

I have "traded" some of my old tanks in at War-Mart...kind of a joke to buy from places that offer propane. They only fill them up 3/4 of capacity. Can fill mine full but I have to be leary of filling them to much. The propane likes to expand.

The local propane distributor should be able to have the tanks inspected.

I would think the OPD would keep you from putting more than 80% in there. Unless you change the valve, you can’t fill a tank 100%.

There is a guy around here that recycles them into bbq pits. Be careful cutting them open.

The only thing it that can stop from filling it the knob. Many years ago, a warning was put out to trade in your old tanks for the new ones.

If you post them on Craigslist for free I imagine someone will come get them.
