Z520C Transducer placement

Hey guys, I have a new 520C with the standard HSD Live package. The 12" unit at the drivers console has the 3-1 Live transducer mounted directly to the bottom of the boat in the rear step area (behind and above the drain plug but, before the Jackplate) Is this the best spot? I am coming from a Lund Aluminum boat with the transducer mounted to a transducer mounting board served in the rear of the transom. The lund also has gen 3 Humminbird helix units. I am having a hard time getting the same quality images with the 520C and lowrance stuff. I am sure its operator induced problems. Looks to me that maybe the transducer on the HDS live needs to be mounted on a bracket or some type of mount so I can adjust the angle or maybe move it around a little? Got any ideas?

Transducer shield sells a bracket and they also have a wedge that changes the angle but probably wouldn’t help much. Most people that own the same Ranger as you has the transducer mounted on the step just like yours.
