Looking at either a low hour z21 with 250 Optimax or a new boat with a four stroke. Anyone have experience with both ? Or just thoughts one which one you liked better ?
Thanks

Up to a year ago I ran the 250 ProXs. Good motor no doubt. Switched to Yamaha 250 Sho & have had no issues so far. Better low end torque. And not having a oil reservoir gave some room in the battery compartment. I agree with the other, 4 stroke of any brand.
I wouldn’t even have to think about it, get the four stroke!!

It depends on the deal I wouldn’t mind either and both dongreat. At this point there is still a strong 2s market especially the go fast boats. However if we are talking long term the market is set for the 4s

Better be a screaming deal on the 2S to even make it a conversation. If not, 4S all day long.

I have a two stroke on my z21 and personally don't want a 4 stroke for one there ugly the only benefit is better holeshot and if making long hard runs the 4 stroke is harder on gas also my z21 with Opti 250 is faster then my buddies with a 4 stroke is
My current 4s z21 is faster then any of my z21s with 2 strokes. What I am hearing is fuel mileage is off a bit from 2 strokes at WOT. Not noticeable to me at all. Same distance seems to burn approx the same gas.

Funny 3 or 4 years ago everyone hated the 4s... I switched to a 4 stroke Suzuki 250ss on my Procraft. No way would I go back. Go 4 stroke and don't look back.

I've had good luck with my zuke. I went from a 225 opti to the 250ss. It's a little faster and has lots more midrange punch, but I'm sure a 250opti would probably best it by 1 or 2 mph. But I'll trade that for the quiet reliable power I have now. Ive never been in the merc 4, but I would bet it is a beast.
Both still make 250 hp at the end of the day. Hole shot will be better on the FS and top end speeds very similar as boat was designed. Next boat will be a FS but lets be real here a 2018 ProXs 2 stroke isn't a dinosaur, its still new and still under Mercury warranty.

Purchased a 2019 Z21 march with 4s and I love it wouldn’t go back plus benefit of not having to buy oil all the time saves money for gas and maintenance is a breeze
my opti must have been a pig because my 4stroke getting way better mpgs.

have you changed your oil and filter yet? Not sure of your reference to buying oil all the time...takes a lot of running to use a gallon on the 250 pro xs 2S, they are very efficient. Agree that the 4S is an improvement, but that not to say you’re buying oil All the time
