Not the best wiring job I've seen. Purple/white is usually reserved for the primer solenoid. Purple is for the IGN post, looks like they tapped off the ign post with a red wire for the back light. Back light is usually blue. They got the ground right, SND (tach signal) post is usually Gray so someone used a different color wire for that. The pigtail on the left side should be for connectivity to the MWS tach harness.
It should work as wired though.

I found out the hard way that when wiring/splicing ect on a boat always solder and heat shrink. Crimped ends will always wiggle loose or corrode at the worst time creating a troubleshooting nightmare...and can be a fire hazard as well.

I have been going back and essentially rewiring the entire boat. Im the third or forth owner and apparently everyone of them decided to half ass wire something. It's been a process to say the least.

I guess I thought that on a system check tach you only had to use the 8 pin wiring harness to make it operational. The 3 leads were not used on those tachs. Again this is the first tach like this I have had.

That does not look like a genuine OMC or BRP tach. Can you show the face of it?
