    Chatterbait without a skirt

Just curious...... how many of you guys take the skirt off your chatterbait and just use a 3.8 swimbait body?

I fish them without a skirt regularly, but I'm also pretty adamant about not fishing a chatterbait with a trailer that has action on its own. I think the action of the trailer works against the action of the bait. I like a Z-Man Razor Shad (basically an indestructible Zako), fluke, or twin-tail spinnerbait style trailer.

...well the idea didn't cross my mind until now! lol, this is one of those, "Well damn, never thought about doing that until you said it. And now that you've said it, it seems like such a great idea, I don't know why I didn't think of it before."

Yeah...me too. Even worse, I have a couple of swinging head chatterbaits that the skirt's come loose on and STILL didn't think of it. Glad I kept them though! I have a feeling a Keitech or Fluke on those bad boys might be the ticket on some days...

Thrown it, didn't have much luck. I actually like a trailer that causes it to dart. A keitech is too steady of movement. A cut tail though, will make it hunt a bit.

Can't remember who but one of the pros was fishing the Jackhammer with just a swim bait in deep water. Said it would go deeper without the skirt.

I don't but if know it's more of a smallie lake I'll throw more white and chartreuse chatters...I usually stay with pumpkin or a sunfish/bluegill flavor
