    Prop Torque

I was recently told by my dealer that Yamaha revised the torque spec's for Yamaha props on a SHO. When the motor is mounted to a jackplate Yamaha now supposedly recommends 100 ft lbs on the prop nut. Anybody else heard this?

I haven't heard it but general consensus has been to go beyond the 40 ft-lbs they recommend. When I run my T-2 I probably end up around 75 ft-lbs with the way the pin hole lines up. Definitely not going to loosen it to put the cotter in

Sure would like to see official notice from Yamaha.
Wonder how many lower units they have replaced under warranty because of this.

I just heard from another dealer on this that Skeeter boats with a jack plate require 100 ft lbs. Other applications are 70 ft lbs. not sure why. I have heard of a couple of Skeeters with lower unit damage because of a failed thrust washer.

Absolutely right they do! I followed the new Mercury 4 stroke break in procedures and so far over 10 hours and haven't made any oil!
