I've seen very little information on this online in regards to this motor.. So I figured I would make my own thread and put my findings. Maybe help someone else down the road.
Please give any input if you have dealt with this!
I've got a 2000 225 ox66. A year ago when I first bought the boat/motor I was out really opening her up, and it just turned off at 65mph/5500 rpms. I thought nothing of it and carried on. Have taken it out once a week since and run it all rpm range,no issues.
Since then the only that has changed is a new cranking battery and a full one year service, and raised jackplate 1.5".
It started again! Except now it is a repeatable issue. At WOT my motor is turning off, once I past 5000 rpms, might turn off at 5300 or 5800.
I've noticed a little hiccup is the first indicator, like it'll hiccup then immediately after it turns off. No alarms, no lights, motor is still peeing good. Checked primer bulb and it seems a little soft, but nothing crazy. After it dies it will crank right back up with no hesitation. You can even catch it if you're fast enough, little hiccup and take foot off and it'll stay running, but it happens so fast.
I drove approx 20 miles on it yesterday, I have no issues at all when I'm under 5k rpms. Maybe a tiny bit of hiccups occasionally but i could be paranoid.
Going to test low pressure pumps tomorrow and make sure there is no vst filter clogs. If that's not it, going to the mechanic next week.
Hopefully he will have answers.
