    Necromancing a bit...

How does the McSmalls handle 1/4-3/8 topwater poppers and shallow-mid cranks?

Man I saw this title and I was trying to figure why one of our new rods that are coming have already been released! LOL - this is old!

Does ok on shallow and mid cranks. Has a soft tip and will throw them decently. Topwaters/poppers - I think the 7'6" length might be a little challenging tip down, but depends on the situation.

Haha...yeah man, three years ain't nuttin'...I necromance 10+ year old threads especially on JDM limited gear.

I am one of the strange ducks that successfully fish 1/4 oz Daiwa poppers on a Shimano Hard Rocker BB 8'3" 2-piece with 20lb braid + 14 leader in these tight middle Tennessee rivers for smallies...lol. This said, yes I'm trying to go a bit "shorter" than 8'3".

    Thanks for replying, much appreciated.

I've been fishing this newly released rod for at least 3 years or so.

Understood, and I have read your praise on it...I wanted to bring up this post to find out whether anyone is using the McSmalls for moving bait open trebles and topwaters, as I haven't seen any input on those techs as much.

cidgrad has already expounded on that.

For what it's worth, we have a lot of guys tossing small jigs for smallies on the McSmalls - so it will definitely shoot out a 1/4oz popper.
