    what prop should I run

    Hi guys just wonder I have a 1995 Ranger 481vs with a 1995 mercury 150 EFI black max it now has a trophy 4 blade ss prop with a 24 pitch its running at 5800 rpm wide open that,s 200 rpm's over my question is if I went with a 3 blade 25 pitch will it drop the rpms opinions please

    I could be wrong but I think that motor should be propped at 5800 or 6k, so id say if your a 5800 your right there. All depends on your height do you have a jackplate?

    What speeds are you seeing? If your RPMs are correct I suspect you have a bit too much slip. 10-12% slip would be ideal and at that RPM with that prop ideally you would be going 61+ mph. A set-back plate would help. A Tempest prop might help too because it has a larger diameter and holds weight better. Make sure your torque tab is compatible with that prop. I suspect a 22 or 23 pitch Tempest would work better on that boat. That engine has something like a 5200-5600 max RPM range and running at the upper end of that range is better than running at the lower end.
