So my 1996 50 HP Force would not run with the hood on last fall so I finally got around to diagnosing it this week. I'd start it and found exhaust coming up around the powerhead. Pulled the powerhead as I believe the gasket is shot and I'll replace. BUT, I also found the heads of 2 1/4" cap screws in the upper exhaust cavity holes which I believe plugged 2 out of 3 of these holes forcing pressure up at idle. These are 1/4" bolts with 3/16" allen heads and are broken off about 3 threads down. If there is anyone knowledgeable on these motors that has any idea where these may have come from I'd be appreciative of a clue where to look.
