chip, pitch or bump and run for seniors?

When your golf ball is about 3 feet from the green with the pin being 50 feet away and generally flat, which short shot do you normally use in this situation. I used to always pitch but when i blade the ball it's history over the back. I've started practicing with an 8 iron trying to bump and run. Easier swing, an hit it on line more often and if I blade the ball it's not history. what technique do you like to use from this position?
    thanks!

Not a senior, but I would do what's most comfortable to you. If confident with a putter..putt. if bump and run is your thing..bust out a mid iron. Can always flop it.

Thanks for the reply. putting usually is my first choice from that position but some of the greens have clumps of grass and bare spots in the fringe. Kind of like putting through a golfer condo.

Bump and run, definitely. I practice that shot quite a bit. I use the 8 iron too, PW for shorter distance to the flag, nice easy swing.

I use a 7 iron and a putting stroke. My plan is to get the ball rolling as soon and as much as possible. Of course, like all golf shots, practice time on the putting green is needed.

I use the 8 iron bump and run with the putter stroke a lot. I just got fitted with some new multifocal contcact lenses, and they have got my depth percetion all messed up. I haven't topped a ball in forever, I topped 5 in a row on the range today. I went on the course and topped 3 shots in the first 2 holes. I took them out and managed to shoot 5 over on the front 9 after that.

Put the ball back in your stance a little bit and "putt" with a 5 iron, best way I have found to bump and run.

Ball in back of stance with club face closed and putt the ball.

In almost any situation around the green, let this be your guide:

If you can putt it, you should putt it.
If you can't putt it, chip it (bump and run).
If you can't chip it, pitch it.
If you can't pitch it, flop it.

Let the lie, the line, the situation make the decision so that you don't have to. With the decision made, play the stroke with confidence, knowing that it's the correct shot.

Pretty good video on this topic. I started using a 8 or 9 iron to bump and run from off the fringe and it seems to give me more control.
