Just bought a 2004 295 Pro XL need a little info

I just picked it up with no motor. Im going to hang my fresh 96 Evinrude 200 on it. Is a 10" plate to much for these hulls? Anyone have pics of the switch panels. Mine had been replaced and would like to get them back to the original style and switches. Also how many gallon of fuel does this boat hold?

10'' JP is larger than Stratos would allow from the factory and would not warrant it. I believe the largest from Factory was 6'' but I'm sure some 295 experts will be along shortly to provide you with more knowledgeable info.

When I visited the production plant in '04, they told me 8 inches on any 18 foot or larger boat.

No expert but 8" was max recommended on the 18,19 and 20 ft hulls. 6" was max recommend on the 17 ft hulls. If my memory is correct I recall more than one person here on BBC talking about putting a 10" plate on a 201 and 200 (both 20 ft hulls) and they all said it helped overall performance. I can't recall anyone doing it on a 19 ft hull but I don't see why it would hurt to try. After all there is no warranty to void so I say go for it if you already have a 10" plate. If you have nothing and are buying then I would go 8".

I already have the 10” off my other boat, but I was worried it may be to much plate. I didn’t know if it would hurt performance or be to much stress.

Setting the engine farther back will change the attitude of the boat while fishing, wouldnt it? That would be my concern if it was my rig.

You mean it might set higher in the front while fishing?

If you have the 10" and can easily install/swap yourself i would try it and see how it works.

Post a picture of the switch panel you're looking at that was replaced.

Here is a picture of the switch panel, if it loads. Check out a company called New Marine Wire for switch covers.

My 195 ProXL holds 42 gallons of gas. I believe the 295 would be the same.

That's very possible because in the late 80's and early 90's it was common for certain models of Stratos boats to have two smaller gas tanks. The OP has a 2004 model and buy that time frame all the Stratos models went to one large tank.
