    HARD TO OPEN

My Ranger is about a month old now and all of the locker doors open up pretty easy. The door that is in back and covers the batteries is a real bear to open I have to pull up on the latch and slip a finger where another door cover touches the battery cover and pull with both hands. I was hoping the carpet would wear in an bit and open up easier but no such luck. I open this cover a lot as this is where I place my ropes and boat bumpers for docking. Does anyone have a miracle product to put on the carpet so it would open easier, Thanks in advance for any replies.

my boats 19 years old and the rear most hatch is still hard to open - might be on purpose as it does face forward and sometimes you get the water over the back

My boat is 5 years old and is still the same as yours. You could shave some of the carpet, but I am leaving mine as it is.

You can take an electric hair trimmer and carefully remove just enough of the carpet around the edge of the lid so that it will open easier.

My '17 does the same thing. I just deal with it for now.

Same here .....I just open one of the other back lids which allows me to grab the edge of the business compartment lid.

It takes time for the carpet to wear in, mine did that for a few years.

I agree I thought I was the only one that noticed this. I cannot open from standing in the back of the boat. I have to get inside and kneel to open it.

Shave it or wet it liberally with water and open/close it 20 times while it's soppy wet all around.

Spray the edges with spray silicone. It will not stain and should solve the fit. Eventually the rug will relax. A Upholstry Pro I know uses it on fabric to help the stretch on recover jobs.

Let us know what brand and how that works out...two of my lids have been a pita to open since day one and still are.

Will the silicone affect the glue at all?
