    Pro XS Thermostat Issues

    There has been numerous occasions where my outboard alarm will beep. Took the boat to the dealership and there were wood fragments stuck in the thermostat causing the motor not to reach it's desired temp. Since then, this issue has continued to occur. I have learned how to remove the thermostats myself and each time, removed wood fragments stuck in the stat. I have spoken to other's who also have this same issue. What is it about the newer Merc Pro XS (mine is a 2016) motors that is allowing this to occur?

    I don't know what causes it that is specific to your motor, but I have it multiple times every year in my 08 Optimax also. Has a lot to do with the water you fish (for example, the Mississippi River is what usually causes my issues).

    Nothing is different about the "newer" motors. Same design forever. Keep the motor trimmed up high BEFORE you get on he trolling motor.
