    Shaft Length

I am considering repowering my 2004 TR21X from a 225 Optimax to a 250 Promax. Does it matter if the outboard shaft length is 20" or 25"? Can it not just be adjusted with the jackplate? Sorry if my ignorance is on full display here.

A bass boat with a 20" transom height needs an outboard with a 20" driveshaft so that the prop can be set up at the proper distance below the bottom of the boat.

Makes sense. I guess my novice brain was just thinking that the difference in shaft lengths could simply be made up for with moving the jackplate up or down.

Most bass boats have a 20' transom, saltwater boats have a 25'' transom. Putting a 25'' motor on a 20'' would be impossible, because you would not be able to get the engine high enough on the transom.
