Remove the head, purchase a threaded insert if available or used head/new must have new head bolts, head gaskets and go for it. I don't like a helicoil repair in aluminum.

Not that it helps you now, but I bet it's the bottom one on the port side. Had a Mercury master technician in Norcal tell me he always removes the port side pan to change plugs. Doesn't take that long as opposed to screwing up the threads on the bottom plug.

Steal sleeve threaded insert. I personally would never use a heli coil when I can get a insert. Put hundreds of them in aluminum heads, in the automotive world.

Replace the head. I don't care for any kind of insert for spark plugs.

Should have used a thread chaser instead of a tap. A tap cuts bent threads out, A chaser will straighten them in many cases without removing metal
    Thank You Leon Pugh

Did you replace ALL the cylinder head bolts, they are single use?

    This.
Have used them many times in racing applications because stuff happens and it’s either get it done now or go home with your tail between your legs. We seldom rebuild back home just because of the insert
You get over the theoretical debate when you witness their performance and durability because you have no choice.

Steel sleeve thread-sert type insert is the way to go. Have to be VERY careful as the margin for error on the plug angle is about 1.5 degrees.
