optimax batter yquestion 150 opti 05

    1B044209

I know there's 100000's of threads on battery questions but im getting mixed "stats"

my cranking battery is reading 12.4v through my VVM fuly charged.

When i plug my charger to it though it will show 14.8V full charge but as soon as I remove it it will read 12.4 maybe 12.5 for a few minutes.

Is that considered a dead battery or normal reading (keeping in mind that my key is in the on position so it powers up the gauges and back lights.

I can switch on my bilge or livewell pump and the voltage doesnt bounce or anything or play with my trim and it doesnt "flutter"

I cant recall battery brand but I do know it has a 1000CCA rating

    about 3-4 years old now

Measure voltage at the battery not through your VVM. Post results (should be close to 12.8vdc). If you have any doubt about battery condition, remove and have it load tested to allay any concerns.

    thanks guys!

ill check to verify with my tester to be safe but yea.. just wasnt sure if its norm to have a "lower" reading through the VVM

dont think anyone local to me does load tests for batteries.. well not that I am aware of anyways

a 3-4 year old battery that had 12.4 volts after unhooked for a while I would replace as it is starting to go south (not necessarily dead at this point, but starting to loose it's capacity).

Yes it is, about .5v lower. That's why, when these questions come up, the advice given is to always to measure voltage at the battery with a DMM (aka DVOM).
