    FROG ROD / LINE QUESTION

I've got a Dobyns 735 that's spooled with 50# Sufix 832 and I've got a 736 that I'm setting up. My question is should I stick with the 50# on the 736 or possibly step up to 65# mainly due to the heavier action of the 736? Both are primarily frog / toad rods but obviously can be used for heavier flipping / pitching, especially the 736.

Currently I'm between going to the 65# or staying with the 50# for help with casting distance.

Has anyone ever felt that 50# braid wasn't sufficient for a frog rod?

50 lb has always been enough for me here in Ohio, but we don’t have a lot of extremely thick vegetation.

60 so u can punch grass with it as well as frog. I don’t like 60 for a frog but it’ll do to double up

I like 50 lb 4x J-braid for farther cast , plus it cuts throw lily pads like a hot knife thru butter.
The only thing I'll throw 65 lb on is a punching set up and that is x8 J-braid (8 carrier for less noise when pumping the bait).

if im just fishing grass and lily pads then i go 50 lbs but if im fishing my frogs around a lot of flooded bush or timber then i go 65 lbs.

Decided to go with 65# on the 736. The bigger question that I didn't mention was whether to buy a Tatula CT or an SV for the 736. I realize the SV would hold more line than I would likely ever need but I wanted a little more line capacity (personal preference pure and simple) than I'd get with 65# on an SV so there's a new 7.3:1 CT inbound. Thanks for the insights!

Good call on the CT. It's not difficult bomb a frog to the end of an SV spool with 65# braid.
