Upgrading From 24V to 36V Trolling Motor

Pertaining to the red switch dial (on and off switch) in the middle of the rear battery compartment. When making a change from a 24 volt trolling motor system to a 36 volt system, does the red switch dial and/or 50 amp circuit breaker need to be rewired?

no it will still go to the positive and negative of the first and last battery, you will just ass the 3rd battery in between and add a jumper

Good deal. I was hoping all I would have to do is add an extra battery and jumper wire in the back.

You might want to check on the breaker size that is required for the TM.....for my situation i went from a 24v MG Tour to 24v Ultrex and and to upsize the breaker that was there.......do that before you get out on the water and have trouble with breaker tripping.....

4 or 6 gauge jumper wire? Also, Since I have to install a 3rd battery tray closest to the middle, is it typically mounted where the whole battery tray is on the aluminum sheet that covers the hoses and pumps? or overlapping the floor? If its overlapping it will be about 20% on the floor and 80% on the aluminum plate. Seems easier if the whole tray is mounted on the aluminum sheet in case I need to access the hoses and pumps in the future.

I always use 4g but 6g is fine, if you are going with a 112 ULTREX you will need a 60amp breaker like fishin couillon mentioned about up sizing
they can draw about 52amps and you should only go 80 to 90% on the breaker

if you are not concerned about space and carrying a spare prop mount the batter on the plate so its flat

Thanks! I'm going to a Fortrex 112 which according to Minn Kota draws up to 52 amps. My Fortrex 80 draws up to 56 amps (only pulling amps from 2 batteries) so I should be drawing less amps with the Fortrex 112 than the Fortrex 80. Not sure why my boat came with a 50 amp circuit breaker but I'm sure there is a reason.

the 50a would probably never give a problem unless you ran it on high for a long period of time, and that 52 is max peak , in most normal use a 36v system will pull less amps that a 24 anyway based on the same thrust but they do recommend the 60a so that its covered

Use self drilling screws to attach the 3rd battery tray to the aluminum sheet that fits over the hoses and pumps? I had thought about screws with washers, lock washers, and nuts but seems overkill. I did remove the aluminum sheet to make sure I had room underneath the plate for screws to go through. I have at least 3" of space below the aluminum sheet before I reach the hoses and pumps so no chance of drilling into that stuff.

I used #14 self drilling screws. It should hold up nicely.
