Black Bottle or Silver Bottle? Are they the same?

    Don -

Recently got into a bit of a discussion about Mercury Oils.. OEM 25-40 Synthetic Blend (Black Bottle) vs Quicksilver 25-40 Synthetic Blend ( Silver Bottle), both 4 Stroke.

    OEM # 8M0078630 - 1 Gallon

    QS # 8M0078623 - 1 Gallon

Are they the exact same product packaged differently for different retail outlets as I've been told? I have seen as much as as a $10 price split with the QS being cheaper. Does not make much sense if its the same exact oil just in different bottles.

Will be interesting to hear what others say. I can say what I have been told, not that I know it to be correct. But I have been told that Mercury and Quicksilver products are absolutely the same, be it oil and filters, gear case lube, everything. The Mercury branded products are made to sell in servicing dealerships and the Quicksilver products are made to sell in retail stores. You are paying a surcharge to buy products with the Mercury name on it.
