    2000 Johnson 150 HP (J150PLSS) Running Rough

My 2000 Johnson seems to be having some issues idling and has a miss I can feel at 4k rpm when running.

I am assuming this a fuel issue. I just replaced the plugs recently.

It has also become harder to start, in the past I was able to pump the fuel bulb and then push the key in and it would start rather easy, now I have to really crank it over to get it to take off and it seems to die before it gets warm.

For idling it seems to be a sneeze at times which I assume is a lean condition. I have done a decarb with engine tuner, and ran the seamfoam cleaner through the carb throats.

It seemed to help, but I believe it is time to pull all the carbs and do rebuilds. The engine is 19 years old and I'm not aware of any carb rebuilds in it's history.

These are the repairs kits I was going to buy.

Is there anything else I should look at while I'm going to attempt this?

If I'm missing something, please advise.

Buy a factory service manual and do sync & link first and that may be it.

Check and make sure the clear sleeve is still over the throttle roller and if you're going to order the carb kits, I'd order new carb bowls also.

I have a factory service manual.

I have done to easy timer confirmation, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to do it all again including link and sync first.

I assume this is the correct bowl you are referencing?

    Good to know lol.

    Am I missing anything else?

Thinking of getting a piston stop so I can be sure on the easy timer and link and sync.

Don't forget about the VST and the diaphragm in the VST pump. These are the most over looked parts of the fuel system. May not be your problem but it sure is time to do this. I would also check the head temps, thermostats don't last forever either. How do you like the Easy Timer?

Hmm... maybe I should go through all of it so I know I might can have another useful 20 years....

Head temps just via a infared thermo?

    Easy timer works great!

Sure, on the top of the head. Your service manual covers this.

I'm glad you posted this... I read up on some of the symptoms. I have having some of the "heat soak" and trailering issues from time to time.

I think it will be best to go through all of the fuel system mentioned so far. This motor has been good to me, guess it's time I'm a little better to it!

Just so I am clear, this is the diaphragm you are mentioning?

It looks like it. P/N 0433352 and get the o ring. While waiting on parts, read up on the recirculation system, and maybe test.

You will work your hiney off ordering parts and installing by the book, but when you're done these guys (and YOU) will have that thing purring like a kitten..... Just remember, the carb kits will have parts that will fit other models also...so only replace parts that you take off.....also don't forget to clear all the orifices good and swap the high speed orifice from the old bowls to the new ones. GoodLuck!

    Hi Jerry,

I'm not finding an Oring with this assembly. Do you see the one you are mentioning on this Evinrude part's page?

Yep, this is the one. Don't forget to get the VST top gasket.
