Trim tilt motor/pump bad from wrong grease on shafts?

    My trim/tilt is working intermittently.

Two months ago I greased the shafts with some white lithium grease. That weekend the trim struggled slightly for a second then worked fine after. I figured it was just the grease since it is a thick grease.

I didn't use the boat again until this weekend. It barely wants to move now at times. All weekend it would slow to a crawl or dead stop but sometimes work fine... Right now it is working great.

Did I use the wrong grease or was that just coincidence and something else is wrong?

    Thanks
    Frank

Grease had nothing to do with what you are having issues with. The only thing the grease does is stop the popping/creaking noise from the rams moving in the cups and maybe making the seals and rod glands last a bit longer. Cj

Bad Trim switch, low oil level, air in the system and a trim motor going bad, low battery charge or bad battery are what you just described.

Look at the top of the page and select the "how to repair" sticky. There is info there.

The oil is full but it has a grey tint in color.
When I take the tilt motor off, it is still working intermittently (strong, weak, nothing, etc), so I think it is electrical. Im going to flush the fluid anyway.

How do I test the solenoid and motor to see which one it is and where would the grounds be to check them also?

    Thanks
