What does CCA mean on a deep cycle TM battery? If you're not going to crank a big motor with them, does it matter what the number is?

If you are not going to crank a motor or use them in any other way that requires a fast discharge of high amperage then you can ignore the CA CCA MCA figures on deep cycle batteries.
It doesn’t matter. Reserve capacity should be the number your looking for in TM batteries.
Thanks dudes!

What tigercat said reserve capacity is king for trolling motors.
CCA...Cold Cranking Amps is how many amps a battery can supply for a few continuous seconds with the outside temperature 0*. I'm not sure but I think the amount of time it has to sustain amperage is for 20 continuous seconds.
MCA...Marine Cranking Amps is how many continuous amps a battery can supply(again I think it is for 20 seconds) when the temperature is 32* or above.
Reserve...is stored energy. If my memory is correct reserve is rated at 20 amps per minute. If my memory is correct and you have a battery rated with 200 minutes of reserve and the load (your trolling motor) is drawing 10 amps then in theory it should run 400 minutes before going dead. At 5 amps you run 800 minutes. Reserve is just simply stored energy you draw from. The more you draw the quicker it goes. The less you draw the longer it last.
On trolling motor batteries reserve is the number your most interested in because that is what your using.
On the boat motor cranking battery most people talk about cranking amps being important and often overlook reserve. I think on a cranking battery reserve is just as important as cranking amps. A lot of people run multiple graphs/GPS, livewells, shallow water anchors and various other accessories when the big motor is shut off. When your doing this you are using the reserve capacity of the cranking battery, hence the reason reserve is important on a cranking battery.
