never understood why larger motor boats couldn't use their big motor but just have to idle everywhere. I would fish sandy and briery more often but having to troll everywhere is a little ridiculous.

So let's say the trolling motor quit working. Because " rules are rules" this person should either abandon their boat or wait for a tow in by a jon boat that may not even be able to pull it? I get following the rules, but let's use some common sense here.

Well I wasn't trying to stir the pot. Just when you are in that part of the lake the only way you got there was with the help of the big motor. The wind was hard out of the South at 15-20 with white caps. So trolling motor only didn't get him to the back of the lake.

The poacher should not have been in that situation to use that as an excuse--THAT is common sense.
If you don't have the equipment to fish there go somewhere else.
I see that occasionally at Briery Creek Lake.
I have sent photos and videos to the Game Commission.

Here is a mid morning poacher at Briery Creek Lake:

That fake standing at the bow to camouflage the crime doesn't work too well with a zoom lense.

Ok so 9.9hp lake. So a gas engine is allowed. What is difference between at 9.9 wide open and a bigger motor just in gear going slow?

Ask the VGIF or a city/county that has the HP restriction.

My point exactly. I am going to email the game commission and I will post their response. If it is not safety or pollution related, then imo it is just trying to limit the angling opportunities for taxpayers who all contribute equally. I shouldn't have to go buy a brand new jon boat with a 9.9 to fish a lake that I can safely fish out of my boat.

Technically it is based on size and pollution. This is based on sandy river was constructed by Prince Edward County and maintained by VGIF. It’s purpose is to be a future water supply for surrounding Counties.

Back when I used to fish Briery alot I would go there with my 20 foot Champion and roll on the TM all day. Would throw extra batteries in to switch over to if/when needed. One time unexpected, as in not in the forecast, severe thunderstorms started popping up in the area and I was at the end of the lake pretty far from the ramp. Game Warden was there and saw me heading back in on the TM and came over and told me to go ahead and use the big motor as he did not want to see me get struck by lightning. Guy was super nice, even helped me load the boat on the trailer and then I helped him with his as winds were whipping by the time we both got to the ramp and it was tough keeping the boat lined up on the bunks. We both got loaded up and in vehicles right before all hell broke loose.

I fish Briery and Sandy both. I’ve seen many running their big motors with total disregard for the regulation. First time on Briery with my new boat just about snapped my Minn Kota clean in two. Yes I idled in a long way from the very back, game warden was at the ramp when I came in. He exercised good sense and judgement and did not write me a ticket. If he had, I deserved it. Minn Kota covered the shaft too. Wardens have a regional office just up the road and I see them a lot on both lakes.
