    new x 5 80lb Motor guide

I also postered this in the trolling motor forum, but figured more might see it here.

I just replaced my old motoor guide 62 lb thrust 24 volt after 20 year. I put on a new x5 80lb thrust my old motor seemed to have more power. On the new one max setting I am getting 1.8 mph on gps cant hold in the wind like I should be able to. Boat is a 98 champion 203, new batteries pro guide group 27 180s. Any thoughts or experiences are welcome.

Shaft length and prop are the only 2 things I could think of. I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t as strong as your old one. I put one on my boat a couple years ago because my old motor had gotten so loud. Ended up the new x5 was just as loud as my 10 year old tour edition.

Sounds like it's only running on 12v.

Check for 24 volts at the plug. I agree with the others. Seems like you don’t have 24 volts. If you messed with your battery wiring, something may have gone back wrong.

May be the connection at batteries. Not tight enough. Do away with those wing nuts and use regular nuts. tighten good.

Was that 62 a Brute 12/24? If it was and had four wires going forward from the batteries you m ight have to change the jump bar at the plug up front. I would thin there might be a diagram in the new owners manual.

When I switched form a 12/24 volt motor guide to the x3 I have now I had to move the wires on the plug. It would have been running on 12v if I didn’t. The new x3 was 24v only. I agree with the others. Probably your issue.

Thanks for the suggestions, it was running on 12v all better now. Sounds twice as powerful. Lol. 25.4 volts at the plug. I can’t wait to use it to it full potential. Thanks again all
