How to remove stuck oil filter

I changed oil in my 75 Yamaha and as usual the filter wrench slipped on the housing, so I used a tip I saw on Utube. Just drill two holes in the filter wrench and drive self drilling screws into the old filter. Quick and easy.

I poke a screwdriver through. Then spend 20 minutes cleaning my hands after. Only once. Learned to only hand tighten the filter on.

I have wrapped a strip of duct tape around end of filter (think the black rubber strip on fram filters) and the filter wrench didnt slip then and was able to screw filter off .

If it is really stuck on, the biggest problem in removing a filter is getting a grip on it. You will find if you put one or more big screw type radiator clamps around it you can get a grip on it every time. You can also use a drift and hammer against the screw part to get it started coming off. The best thing about this method is no oil leakage.

Piece of sandpaper, folded, grit facing out on both sides.A small piece will usually work when inserted between wrench band and filter.
