115 mercury 4 stroke tach problems

This is my first post here and I’m not sure if I am posting this in the right place. I have a 2014 115 Mercury 4 Stroke on my Lowe 195 stinger. Boat was recently serviced at a mercury dealer nearby, part of what I asked Them to do was check the tach for accuracy. Before taking it to them the factory tach was showing 6600 rpms at full throttle and I was Only running 41-42. Since I got It back at WOT the tach is pegged out well above the 7k limit on the gauge, motor has the same tone, I dont get an alarm and I’m still running the same speed. Any pointers to solve this issue would be great.

On the back of the tach is a small, slotted screw with numbers printed around it. This screw will adjust the tach to the number of poles on your engine’s alternator or stator. If it’s not set correctly, the tach will read way off. I don’t know which number yours should be set on but it sounds like someone reset it. Post up on one of the Mercury pages and some one will tell you how to set it.
