    Prop / Pad setting TR186

I ordered a manual 6” jack plate, should have it soon. I’m just curious if anybody has a sweet spot for how many inches below the pad my prop should be on my TR 186. I realize I will have to fine-tune it but I’m looking for a good starting point. 2006 TR186 with 150 OptiMax, 23 P Tempest. TIA

3” is the golden standard for that setup

I agree with starting around 3 ins. and tune from there. Watch your water pressure as you go higher. I think I ended up at 2-3/4 in. below the pad.

    2000 TR186, 150 VMax OX66, 6" plate

I run mine at 2 1/4" below pad with a 24" Trophy (4-blade). A buddy with same rig runs a 24" Tempest Plus at 2 1/4" as well. Both boats run 56-58mph tournament load, full livewell and gas. 5600-5800rpm depending on load. Plenty of water pressure at this height.

I've tried alot of props and found the 4 blades like running higher and have less chine walking compared to 3 blade props.

Anyone have any experience with prop selection, jack plate height etc for a tr-186 with a 175 evinrude? I bought this boat used. Hydraulic jack plate I left set at 3.5” below pad. 4 blade prop is dinged pretty bad. I get 60 mph trimmed out. Wanting to switch to a 3 blade for more top end if possible. Or even a new 4 blade. Just looking for some advice. Current prop is a 4 blade mercury trophy plus 48-825938 23 pitch

    To meauxjo:

Cleanup the current 4 blade and see where you're at. Clean blades make a world of difference on performance. I prefer the 4 blades for holeshot and rough water stability at WOT ableit at the expense of 2-3mph top end speed.

Since you have a hydraulic JP, try adjusting the height higher while running. The 4 blades like and can run higher than a 3 blade prop.
