Weird event on the water yesterday morning.

I started the morning different, throwing a DD22.
First hit was what I'd guess a 9' gator.
Thought I hooked a sunk tree limb, which happens pretty often. Because I seen some bubbles when I set the hook.
Troll over to it, and go to the back of the boat. Start pulling up on it and start to lean down. See the head and eyes.
Figured it would open it's mouth and I would get my lure back, so I pull it all the way to the surface.
It opens it's mouth, and it was hooked in the top of the mouth. It thrusted it's head sideways at the same time closing it's mouth. Broke my line.
Other than top water I don't recall ever getting a gator before. My ex wife used to get them no matter how see would fish.
I did catch a lot, but nothing big. Here's some pictures. I did take a picture of one of the little ones, because sometimes people ask if I really catch that small of bass while fishing when they see the creel sheets I post sometimes. You really do catch lots of small ones out there. The one was just a inch longer than the jerk bait.

Ok, am I the only one that can't believe this story?

First of all a DD22 in Florida. Is there really any water deep enough for that lure? Second, a nine foot gator being pulled to the boat with fishing line? When in LA, I had trouble getting a four foot gator all the way to the boat to get my lure back. They either broke off or the lure came out.

Nice pictures and just yanking your chain.

And mine was a custom painted I got from Big Sack Custom Lures when they were selling on BBC years ago. Hated losing it!

When it opened it's mouth and I seen the lure stuck, I thought about it. But that thrust with it's head happened breaking my line. But after I couldn't tell you which it was. There was a few around that size.

There are plenty of gators that big where Terry is fishing! I have stopped and taken videos of them sunning because that place is like Jurassic Park! He probably wasn’t mad until you started trying to get your lure back, damn Gators

As always, you catch plenty of fish!

Call Troy Landry. He'll come and get your DD22 back and do it on film, so you can learn what you shoulda done.

DD22 's are very popular here in NC on some bodies of water. I have found almost 100 of them thepast 3-4 years.
