When mounting on the shaft how close to the motor can you mount it?

I would think it wouldn't matter cause you get a trolling motor barrel mount which mounts it on the barrel........now when you calibrate the system, i'd say that's where the 7" comes into play and should be away from the barrel due to the magnets....knock on wood, when i put my PS22 Live Down, i move it to the barrel....no interference....

That is what I was thinking but not sure. Also the offset built into the mount should help to keep the Tm motor from fouling the view.
I really don’t see much need to calibrate it as I always know which direction it is pointing.

7" up, and barrel mount is fine but will not be able to use compass.

Mine is 7" up but my Hydrowave is on top, so only 5" away. My compass doesn't work because of this.
