Synthetic ?
Is synthetic oil a good idea in 1996 Johnson 3.0

It's always a good idea in anything you run.

It's not going to hurt anything. I run Bombardier XD50 which is a synthetic blend in my Yamaha. I buy it at https://domo-online.com/evinrude-oil/. I can buy it cheaper and delivered to my door than at the local shop's bulk drum.

I will be buying some next fill up. Worth protecting the investment

BRP (Evinrude) XD-50 as Reggie says it is a semi-synthetic blend. Most dealers sell in bulk if you have a clean jug to bring. If you want to go top shelf XD-100 full synthetic not a blend. I run XD-50 in my 225 HO. If you can't get a deal on the BRP stuff you may have a Merc dealer nearby see if they have Quicksilver Premium Plus, that is close and is a blend also but the XD-50 has a decarb agent added to the oil. Carb X.

No problem ... Fred is the OMC/Bombardier guru here, so was hoping he would show up. I've been running HD-50 since it was introduced. In the Mariner 200 EFI that was on my 201 and the Yammie 250 HPDI I have now on my 210.

I wouldn't run a full synthetic. A synthetic blend would be perfect like stated above.
