    300xs blowing fuse number 4

    2014 300xs Motor Serial 1E052216

Started the boat today and backed it off the trailer no issues. Untied and went to idle away and motor just shut off. Checked fuses and found fuse number 4 (20 amp) to be blown. Replaced, started motor, 3 seconds later it shut off (blew the fuse again). Ideas?

Short to ground start by inspecting every inch of the wiring harness, under the cowling.

When mine did that, it was a bad coil that was shorting out. I have 250 Pro XS, but what you are describing was exactly what happened to me. Check and see if there is any discoloration, crack, swelling,and/or white puffy material coming out of one of your coils.

Didnt find anything out of line with the wiring harness or coils. Any other suggestions?

What size fuse is directly above the 20 amp fuse that is blowing? If you remove the fuse that was blowing, do you hear the fuel pumps run, during key-up?

The 20 amp is the one blowing. If I remember right, I do hear the fuel pump run even after blowing the fuse. I can double check tonight. I believe the fuse above was a 15 amp

It is probably a coil shorting out. Mine did the same. Was a bit hard to figure out since it needed to heat up a bit before the faulty coil shorted.
