Philadelphia Flyers took a statue down of her this weekend that was outside the arena.
I remember as a child watching her on TV. I believe she had a show. She would sing God Bless America pretty often. Maybe it was her closing song.
If you look hard enough to be offended I think your doing your cause an injustice.
She has been an icon with the Philadelphia Flyers for years I can't believe they put a tarp over her statue and took it down. I will never go to another Flyers game. I know they don't care but I do. You have to look at things that have happened in the past in context with those times in which they happened. You can not rewrite history by tearing down statutes and monuments. If you think the monument is undeserved use that as a stimulus to have a discussion or as an opportunity to tell your children how things were in the past and how much things have changed. No one benefits in the long term if we just tear things down, it's not much different than the Taliban blowing up priceless statues and relics that they don't believe in.
People that can't put the past behind them have real issues to contend with. Living in the past doesn't change anything nor is it healthy for someone. Only the future can be changed and bringing up the past only makes it harder to change the future.

Kate Smith and America go hand in hand.
Let those with never an impure thought or hateful action ever in their lives throw the first stone. Then they too can walk on water. The shame of small minded people judging the departed by their holier than thou standards.
Times change, people need to be taught and judged by the right and wrong of the society in which they lived, which might not be today's norms.
