I see that gen 2 helix 12 without side imaging (has chirp 2D and mapping) are selling at really good prices. Saw some for $1,300. I want to get 360, but do I need to buy a unit with SI to be compatible with 360 imaging?

No, a CHIRP model, a DI model, and a SI model will support the 360.
