    Judging distance with maps

    I switched from lowrance to hummingbird helix 9 g3n. With the lowrance hds I used the range ring feature on the maps and it really helped to orient myself and figure out distances to waypoints and things like that. How do you all figure out how far away you are from something?

    Use the Casting Rings feature. Set the distance to what you want, it will be the radius of that ring that you adjust.
    Every waypoint will have that ring around it.

    I use the 30' setting:

    Another method if you want to know distance from your current location to a waypoint, here's a youtube video telling you how to use the Waypoint Proximity Flags;

    I1555885495644296421888089937943.jpg I turned on units to check out this option. When I hit menu twice and go to nav. These are my only options. What am I doing wrong?

    Do you have map cards in the units? Which ones? And what version of software?

    To get the full menu, you have to change the User Mode to Custom in the Setup menu.

    jojo, you should be able to set a cursor at your point of interest and the distance should show on the screen. Otherwise there is a scale you can display on the screen which shows a line equal to the scale you are using. I don't know how big you can make the casting rings. Bob

    The Casting Ring setting is from Off to 150'.

    Doh! Thats the first thing I do with every graph. Tends to make me forget about the abbreviated options in the other.
