    TR186 jack plate sizing help

I have a 2006 TR186 and want to install a jack plate. I want to make sure I do it right the first time. The boat has a 23 pitch tempest prop, a 150 HP OptiMax and hydraulic steering. I’m hoping to buy a jack plate that will not require any changing of cables and such. Currently my rpm’s (~5200)and speed (55-56) are lower than what I’ve been reading, and I experience a little bit of chime when I hit about 56 mph. Input on the correct manufacture and size and where to purchase would be helpful, thank you.

I have an 07 TR-186 w a 175 Opti and have a 6 inch T&H Marine Pro Hi Jacker HP. I’ve only heard of people using a 6 inch on our boats. As far as rigging goes you have to see what slack you have available in your bilge area to accommodate moving your motor back.

My 2008 TR-186 with a 150hp Optimax also has a 6 inch and I think that is the correct size.

Thank you for the replies, is it normal or is it the exception to have to modify cables when adding a JP? I am pretty sure my boat is rigged like it was when it left the factory.

Cable length should be fine when adding a 6in plate. I have 2 buddies that added 6in plates one on an 2003 TR186 and the other on an 2004 Ranger. Both did not need to switch any cables.

I have the manual TH Marine and it seems fine but I have no experience with any other brands.

My friend just got a 6 in JP from Hydro Dynamics. It is a manual that is adjustable in 1/4 inch increments. If I had to buy a new one that’s what I would get. It makes adjusting it so much easier.

Cable length should be fine. I have the 6 inch th marine zlock and I think its a pain to adjust. Also if you are considering shallow water anchors certain jackplates don't work with the brackets
