    A 2007 TR20 X2 is a different animal than a 2005 TR 20X.

My best top end is around 70.5 while my son can hit 75-78 easily. I'm not sure what his absolute best is but I know he can run 78 pretty much any day. Both boats with two people and fully rigged with typical tournament load.

I bought my boat new so I know that is has the original tag however my son bought his boat used from a reliable dealer that was the original seller of the boat, so there is a high probability that the tag on his is original too. I really don't see a dealership taking the liability to change the HP rating tag on a boat.
Same here. My boat was a one owner until I purchased it a few years ago from a reliable dealer that originally sold the boat new. I see no reason the tag would’ve been change. Especially since it still had the original 225 t-tech on it and the first owner never went up in HP. My top speed was just above 72 at WOT so I’m thinking with the 250 pro xs v8 I should be running around the same as your son.

I called Triton headquarters again today and they told me they do not have records on capacity tags before 2014 model boats. They said I could call the US coast guard (which sounded kind of strange since I’ll never see a US coast guard inshore fishing) to try to get more info if I’d like. I read the tag exactly as it said and they told me some boats around the time mine was manufactured did have some different HP ratings on them. Just a little info for anyone that may run into this.

Yes they are. We learned that when we tried to set his 07X2 up like my 05-21X. My motor is about 2/12" below pad and his boat, when set at the same was all but uncontrollable. After much testing and raising and lowering the motor, we wound up setting his motor about 31/2 to 4" below the pad and it handled perfectly at that setting. He has no chine at WOT and the boat performs well. My boat has chine no matter what the setting but I have learned to drive it and it's no big deal. Now that I have learned to drive the boat, I can move the JP up or down while at WOT and don't notice much handling difference unless I get to extremes.

But you are exactly right. There is major difference between the two hull designs but they are both have the same HP rating.

    A 2005 20X and a 2007 X2 do not have the same HP rating.

Chopper aka my dad has a 2005 TR21X bassmaster edition that does say 250hp max on the coast gaurd plate.

My 2007 TR-20X2 that is also rated at 250 hp on the coast gaurd plate.

Believe as you want but this is fact.

Now if he had a 250, he would smoke me as he has a faster hull design than I do.
Sometimes I need my ATV when in my boat and sometimes I need my boat while riding my ATV.

Yes, but a 2005 TR-20X was rated at 225HP......That's the biggest motor Triton put on that year and model, they never put a 250HP on that hull.

Savage, I could have sworn that there was a certain 20ft model in late 05 rated for 250? XD, X2, Limited edition no? Maybe a 06 model?

No argument about a 2005 TR-20X. I have no idea what that boat may or may not be rated for. My boat is a 2005 TR-21X and it's rated for a 250. My son (reelsore who posted above) has the TR-20X2 that's rated for a 250 but that's a 2007 model.

    I ran mine today with a 27p Tempest & it ran a tad over 80 @5900. I wouldn't run anything smaller than a 25

I'm glad you noticed . So his boat theoretically is lighter, same pad, & will have the same engine... By the sound of that, he should be running what I have or higher right? Just giving my .02 because I'm running a SIMILAR boat....

Here the deal as far as coast guard ratings, once the boat is over twenty feet it becomes unrated. You can put 2 300's on it, however it is up to the manufacter to rate the boat as long as they do not go over the coast guard rating. The main reason most 20 footers were rated at 225 was because of competition, or model mix. Example 18 footers 150-175, 19 footers 200-225, 20 footers 225, 21 footers 25-300. Now it has changed because of the prices and competition of the boat brands.
