    1988 Evinrude 9.9 RPM Question.

I have a 9.9 that I think is not really running the RPM I think it should. At idle it is about 550 to 600 and at WOT its around 4500. Read a little that says 5k-6 on the rpm is ideal. Cant find nothing on the idle. Gone up and down on the fuel mixture and donr seam to help much. Any suggestions to get a little more rpm out of it?

What kind of boat/weight/load/prop specs(pitch,,ect)? Has it always been like that or just started?

I've only owned the motor about 6 months and it has done it since I got it.

All right. Sounds good. Do you know the size of the stock prop is?

No I do not as it would be propped from the Dealer. If you take off the prop nut and washer the pitch should be stamped on the prop hub on the prop nut side.

Looks like it is a 9 1/4X10. Wonder If the Higher RPM with a smaller prop will kill the MPH. Rolling about 10 to 12 now.

Probably not because you will be up higher in the power band where it needs to be. Drop it down 2 pitches like Fred says. You really worried about losing speed with a 9.9 and 10-12 mph now?????
