    Oil pump prime needed?

    2005 Optimax SN 1B151269
Will be replacing my remote oil tank this week as soon as I receive it from European Marine. Received the four beep alarm Friday while fishing. Determined through trouble shooting it is the remote tank sensor not sending proper continuity with float in top position. With that being said, do I need to have the oil pump prime done at dealer after replacement of remote oil tank?

    Regards,

    Dennis

No prime is needed as you did not break the line AFTER the engine mounted tank.

So the alarm is for low oil level in the Remote tank ? Not the tank on the motor ?

Why are you replacing your remote (in boat) tank? If the float assy is bad just replace the float assy, and for clarification, the remote sensor does not send "proper continuity with float in top position". It tracks oil level for display on a Smartcraft device and won't create an alarm until remote tank level drops below 30%.

Now if you really mean the engine reservoir (on engine) tank that's a completely different situation.

If you actually changed the engine mounted tank you will need to have it primed due to the inevitable air bubble in the line from the tank to the pump.

To clarify it is the engine mounted reservoir tank. So I need to prime?

I picked up the new tank this afternoon. Can you safely operate motor with the engine oil tank alarm bypassed (Jumper wire in engine side plug)?

Yes for testing purposes only, not to go boating for the day.

Installed tank. Filled reservoir about half full. Took to dealer. Tech turned on key cycled gear shifter 4 times oil pump pulled about 1” of oil out of motor reservoir. Tech told me to go home run motor with reservoir cap open till it filled and I would be good to go. Did not use diagnostics laptop to prime. Any body else experienced this?

Be prepared to use a lot of oil over the next few weeks and I would go ahead and have a new set of plugs ready if I were you.

The Tech put your motor in "Break-In" mode, he did NOT perform a Oil Pump Prime Sequence.....Hope he didn't charge you to do the wrong operation!

Okay. No charge. I asked did that sequence put it in break in mode and he said no. It pulled down about an inch of oil out of reservoir and then stopped. I just had my compressor replaced by this business and they told when I picked it up it would be in break in mode for 10 hours.

Break-In mode was NOT necessary for either one of your recent problems.
You now are using and wasting a lot more oil for no reason!
