    New NRX?

I just ordered a new NRX 854c, what can I expect from this rod? My plan ir 1/2-3/4 ounce jigs.

I had one. Honestly wasn’t a fan of that model. I fished 3/8 and 1/2 jigs on it. Never tried 3/4

    3/4 a bit too much for 854.

I've got a NRX 852c for 3/8 jigs just wanted something a little heavier. Should I have gotten a GLX MBR model?

In my opinion, an NRX 854C and a 3/8 oz. jig goes hand-in-hand like a steak and baked potato. A 1/2 oz. jig should be OK. I would think a 3/4 oz. jig would overload this rod.

I had the 854 and also wasnt a fan. The 894 is the cream of the crop for 1/2-3/4 jigs. The 854 just never really fit anything i do so i sold it in very short order. Imo the 873 and 894 are much better jig rods. The 873 carrying the 3/8-1/2 and my favorite tx rig rod with 3/8 sinker and the 894 being yhe best general jig rod ive ever held

I bought my 853 for 3/8 jigs and figured I'd step up to the 854 for bigger jigs as it's rated for 3/4. Maybe I should have gotten the 6'10" Falcon Cara Head Turner localay from the place that makes them here in town instead. The reason I went with the 854 is the specs match the Falcon except it is rated for 12# line, the Loomis is 14#. Fishing Bull Shoals and Table Rock clear water kind of puts me in the 12# range. I have Falcons that can handle 1oz+ lures but since they are going overseas I wanted to start buying US rods.

I just picked up a falcon expert 6-17 and got to use it a little this morning. It is slightly lighter power than the equivalent cara rod but I think it’s going to be a good rod. I’d prefer to buy US made but I can’t find any rods that I like better than falcon for the money.
let us know how the nrx compares to your falcons.

I think youll be extremely happy with your decision. The 894 is the best 1/2-3/4 jig rod ive held and ive used a lot of higher end stuff. Not only is the feel amazing and how it handles those weights, i almost completely quit losing jig fish when i bought my first 894. I now have 2. Im not sure if other rods i was using were too stiff and i was blowing too big of a hole when i set the hook or the flex was just wrong to keep them pinned for me. I cant promise anybody else will have that kind of result, but it certainly helped me a bunch

I think you will love the 894 for the application you described. I have a 854,893,873, and a 894 and would say the 894 is the best jig rod I have ever fished. The 893 is also the best 1/4 to 3/8 t-rig rod made imho. I use the 873 for wobble heads up to about 3/4 and it works great. The 854 I picked up new for cheap, and dont know what to do with it yet. Maybe heavier t-rigs than the 893 or light jigs maybe. You will love the 894. Some say they are a bit tip heavy, but I balance all my rods so no big deal to me.

What is a good way to balance rods? I am also looking for a good 1/2oz jig rod. I am considering a GLX 854c or a NRX 873. I’ve read so many people say they didn’t like the 854 but loved the 873 but I felt the 873 and it felt considerably tip heavy with a metanium on it. Also could just make my glx 844 my jig rod and get a dedicated frog/light pitching rod

I've ordered a Metanium MGL XG to go on it.

good choice i also was not a fan of the 854 model and much preferred the 894 for 1/2 oz jigs. the one thing i will give to the 854 was it made a great rod for skipping docks due to the softer tip section.

My wife has an 853 with an Aldeberan MGL, I think next I'll try out a GLX of some model. Local bait store here makes the Falcon Cara which is basically all I throw, they have a good selection and I my try to grab a couple before they go to China like the rest of the Falcons then get back to trying Loomis. I do have a NRX 872 spinning rod that I really like.

I balance mine with a balancer that I modify to fit my rods. It is a industrial leg protector that I modify to fit a fishing rod. Kinda a chair leg protector but better. A chair leg protector in 1" size will also work with a quarter or two put in the end before installing it on the rod but.
