    Hot foot spring???

My throttle return spring broke last weekend. Just installed new one and tested it a few times but the spring is not pulling hot foot back to idle position and if it does it's very slow. What is there to do for a fix??

Is it an oem spring? Or one from a hardware store? Could try spraying it with lube to loosen it up.

First off; is it an original replacement spring ?
You should be able to adjust the spring tension.

Yes straight from TH marine the maker of the hot foot.
I will have to mess with the screw some more in the am then.

Try the hotfoot with the motor and the spring off. It must move smoothly without binding.

Broke one once while running, that wasn't a good feeling at all. Reason #3,498 not to have a hot foot.

To each his own --- I will never own a high performance boat without one.
I've broke a couple over the years. That's why they have a toe clip.

There is an adjustment screw to change the tension length. Back it out to increase the spring tension.

put wd 40 in the bushing, probably froze up and is the reason the first spring broke

Also make sure the throttle cable isn't routed so its in a bind.

Nows the time to find out why it broke in the first place. The bolt it hooks to is the tension- tighten that up to increase tension. Dont waste much time looking for a tension screw. Check the roller bearing then check the cable. Something is stiff

Broke a throttle return spring on a F150 while on the interstate, that wasn't fun either. I no longer own a Ford.

Not saying that there isn't "something stiff" However its not uncommon for those springs to break.. metal fatigue -- it will only flex so many times before it breaks.

Something seems odd about the angle of the throttle cable. I meant to look at mine this morning, but forgot.

edit: I looked at mine, the angle of your cable is completely wrong.

His omc will be opposite of yours if you have a mercury. It pushes instead of pulls

Ahh, I do have a mercury. My last motor was a Yami and I think (could be wrong, it’s been a few years) it was a push, I thought it was attached to the bottom holes.

I don’t see the pictures anymore, but his was bolted to the same hole that mine is, using the pull direction. Something seems odd about it, that’s for sure.
