    Rod for Swimbait/Stripers

I want to get setup to throw big swimbaits for stripers and hybrids. Planning to use a Daiwa Millionaire CV-Z, Luna 253, or Lexa 300 for the reel (I have these already). Now I need a rod that will handle up to a 4 oz Swimbait. I prefer a softer tip for easier casting. I don’t want to spend too much money until I decide how much I’ll use it.

considering these rods, anyone have experience with any of these

    - Savage Gear Browser 8’ Heavy
    - Lamiglas XP Bass 7’10” Heavy
    - Daiwa DX Swimbait 8’ Heavy

Any other suggestions for a bargain rod? Toughness is more important than sensitivity, stripers are not exactly subtle when they bite. My biggest is 31 pounds, but that was on live bait with a guide. I wouldn’t expect to catch that size but it’s always a possibility.

Dobyns fury 795 sb for up to about 3.5 oz or Dobyns fury 806 sb for the heavier bait's. For you going after those big strippers I would go with the 806.

If it were me, I would go with the Daiwa DX. Well-regarded in striper circles. Excellent quality for the price. 5 year warranty. It's power is a tad under its rating, but the 8' H would be great for 4oz and under. Put the Lexa 300 on it (I'm partial to the Lexa series)!

For a reel I would go with a Lews super duty wide spool.

Lamiglas with a curado 300e or Okuma 354 coldwater if you want a better reel than a Lexa!

I happen to have a Lamiglas 8 footer, rated for up to 2 ounces. I have plenty of reel options for it. Daiwa Luna, Millionaire 203 CV-Z, Zillion Cranker, and a few more. I am going to concentrate on a rod to throw swimbait that weight 2-6 ounces.
