I'm confused on how a rock is gonna fly up and break the screen while towing when the screen would be facing the opposite direction the vehicle is moving?

I take mine off so there is less wind resistance when towing, saves gas, like .00001279463 cents per mile and no rocks will ever hit them.

It could crack the casing, maybe even causing internal damage. Ever seen what a rock can do to a super hard windshield?

The same guys that say they take their graphs off when trailering to avoid a rock strike are some of the same guys who claim to drive their boat 65+ MPH through "3 foot" waves.

I've had the back of my graph take tungsten sinkers at full bore and hardly a blemish to show for it.

I have a 100 times more chance of damaging the connections by taking them on and off or just dropping graph. Versus a .00001% of a rock hitting them while on the trailer.

I never take mine off. I trailer with the screen covers on. A rock is going to hit my truck or the hull before it comes anywhere near my graphs. Unless rocks are falling out of the sky.

I have a question about this also. Does anyone have the Garmin Echomap 93sv that Bass Pro had on sale at the end of 2018? The mount it has is different. Its a type of quick release bracket. Basically the cradle that holds the head unit that the cables attach to the back of is seperate from the head unit. I would like to take the head unit off while trailering but im worried taking in and out over time the way it snaps in will loosen and hold head unit firmly anymore. Has anyone had this type Garmin mount for any period of time?

I fish 3 reservoirs all within 45 minutes from home. Always leave mounted and locked. I too am worried more about the constant on and off possibly damaging the pins. However if I traveled a couple of hours and had to leave the boat unattended for a bit, they’re definitely coming off.
