    gear ratio difference?

Earlier I posted a performance question about my new motor I'm breaking in. As I continue to think about it though, for some reason I thought my old motor had 1.87 gears. Could that be possible with a 2010 200 pro xs?

The new motor has 1.75 gears. Could this be the reason I am not turning the rpms I was before? How do the different ratios affect rmps etc.???

My guess would be you have found the issue but, I would post it in the Mercury form and ask one of the techs that know more about gear ratios.

I bought an Opti in June 2011 that was built in 2010,it has 175/1 gears. I think that was standard but maybe yours had been changed?

Are you running the same prop as your previous motor? If so, the 1.75 gears will be like you added 1" of pitch to the prop. You may have to drop down 1" to run the same rpm. I'd wait til it's broken in, it will loosen up and gain a lil' power after it breaks in.

The 2010 200 opti max has 1.75 gears not 1.87. It also has a service master lower unit which is probably different than the new motor.

Thanks!. Would this LU differ in performance though?

Good catch by him, I think I remember reading in the merc boards there was a difference. I read it
somewhere in the stickies up top.

Lots of guys were also claiming that the new motors had been de-tuned, but there is no proof of it.

The new lower could be a Verado lower which is larger in diameter than the old service master and that would cost you some speed.
