    crank bait wood

    the nephew and i have been making would flat side cranks out of pine and was wondering if balsa or ceder would be better option

    Nowater, I am by no means an expert on making crankbaits, but I am pretty sure that balsa is the preferred and most buoyant. For years I did throw Poes and I believe they were all cedar. The poes were heavier (maybe more dense is the correct term) than my balsa ones so they did cast better and dove better but were not quite as buoyant or weedless. I also have a few Stanfords and I think they are cedar. I don't think that I have ever thrown pine. Years ago I had a few Strike King baits endorsed by Bill Dance and I think that they were jelutong wood, which felt similar to balsa to me. The guys at Tackleunderground can probably point you in the right direction. Hope that helps.
