    New motor break in changes

I have 13 hours now on my new 200 proxs. (blew the 1st one up) since being able to open it up I'm not seeing near the performance. Can I still expect it to get better as o get more hours on it?

    only turning 5400 rpms and 63mph on a z7. it's a 70+ mph boat with that motor.

If your first motor took you too 70, I can see why it blew. I can see 65mph, not 70.

it's an 18.5 ft boat with 200. most with that combo are at 70. I didn't even work on setting mine up at all and would do 68 anytime. that boat with a 175 is doing 65 or more.

The new ProXS I had ran ok until around 35 hours, then you could really tell it was broke it. It picked up 2-300 rpm and mph, holeshot was much better as well around this time. It was enough change, that I had to change props and go up one inch of pitch to keep it off the limiter. I feel comfortable that once you get some more hours on the boat it will be fine, but would check to make sure that you are getting WOT just to be sure. Don't see any reason that combo wouldn't run 70+ mph once engine is broke in and everything is dialed in. I had an older Javelin 18' with a 150 ProXS and it would run 67-68 anytime solo loaded to fish and would run 70-71 on a good cool morning light, so don't see why your combo wouldn't do it as well.
    Thanks, Nate

After a little more looking at it, I am not 100% positive, but I think I actually have a different gear ratio in the lower unit with the new motor.
The new motor is 1.75 and I believe the old one was a 1.87.

If your old motor was a 2.5L 2 stroke it would have a 1.87 lower unit but if it was a 3.0L opti max 2 stroke it was a 1.75 gear ratio motor and would run 70 on that boat. Some guys have had to take the new motors back to the dealer to have the throttle reset to wide open.

No, it was a 2010 200 proxs. guess I was wrong on the gears it had. I must have been remembering the boat I had before that as it was a 2.5 liter 2 stroke.

Any way I would know if the throttle needs to be reset? I never had that happen to the first motor when I bought it brand new.

I just repowered this season with a new 200 Opti ProXS. It replaced a 200 HO Evinride DFI Fitch. I sure hope this Mercury picks up some punch because it is not impressing me on top end. I did change from 6" plate to an 8" plate and I have not spent a lot of time tweaking the setup so hoping for improvement.
