Just wondering how many guys on here fish the Ohio River on this forum? Probably the least productive water in ky but it's the closest water I've got. I've got a tourney in May I was thinking about fishing but seems like I blank ALOT on the river

Fish the River out of Tanners Creek as much as I possibly can. Sure it's tough but when you have a good day it much more rewarding than hitting a "bass factory". I just wish the rains would stop and let the River get back to pool... Dan
I fish the big muddy all the time. I like the river as Dan said it’s tough but very rewarding when you have s great day.

I fish out of Tanners creek most of the time. It is a tough place to fish but I like it over the other lakes around where you have to get in line to fish an area.

Asian carp have destroyed this fishery. Golconda was a very popular tournament place, now your'e lucky to draw 25 boats. I heard the marina won't even be open this year. Illinois is only worried about the great lakes and Kentucky only the Tennessee river
I haven't personally seen any Asian carp but I've heard they are up by markland dam.

I’ve seen a few Asian carp in the medhal pool last fall and already this spring

I've heard that downsizing lures helps in the river, any truth to that. Just going after numbers in hopes of keeping my son (13 yr old) interested for more than 30 minutes.

Small cranks and spinnerbaits will usually get bites
Good luck with that...on the Ohio river, you’re lucky to get a bite all day. That being said, I love fishing it and proudly admit to blanking quite often. I fish from Westport to Carrollton and do better on the main river than the creeks. Definitely downsize your lures...Texas rigged craws and Crankbaits. One definite plus on the river is, you never know what you’re going to catch. Also, yes, Asian carp are in the Ohio River. I snagged a giant one two years ago. 427CFBE9-07E3-4A86-A441-72608810D224.jpeg

I’ve spent a lot of time on the river. I can be tough but creeks like turtle ,tanners, white oak and corn can be very productive. Also never count out locking up The Ky river . I’ve had really good days between locks 1 & 2.

We have the Smelaware River here. Typical river fishing but with a 7ft tide swing. Big baits are small worms, Charlie Brewer's 4in worms have been a big deal for a long time, Bomber 6As, lots of rocky banks so jigs are popular with real die hards that only want a couple bites. Crankbaits should be right around 2in long is how I pick my baits.
