    Lent 4 Rejoice

    Isaiah 49:8-10

    Restoration

    8 This is what the Lord says:
    “In the time of my favor I will answer you,
    and in the day of salvation I will help you;
    I will keep you and will make you
    to be a covenant for the people,
    to restore the land
    and to reassign its desolate inheritances,
    9 to say to the captives, ‘Come out,’
    and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!’

    “They will feed beside the roads
    and find pasture on every barren hill.
    10 They will neither hunger nor thirst,
    nor will the desert heat or the sun beat down on them.
    He who has compassion on them will guide them
    and lead them beside springs of water.

    v.8 "my favor', "salvation", "covenant"--look to the cross

    v.8 God is speaking to His Son (human nature--Christ did not always and fully use His divine power)

    v.9-10 Heaven

    Message: 1.The sacrificial love of Christ is your power over sin. 2. Stay the coarse thru the power of the Gospel--daily.

    Relating to v.9 above. God comes to our aid in the darkness/captivity of sin.
    Excerpts from Isaiah 9:

    The people walking in darkness
    have seen a great light;
    on those living in the land of deep darkness
    a light has dawned.

    6 For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given,
    and the government will be on his shoulders.
    And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
    7The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.

    --The creator of the universe was born into that manger for one purpose: go to the cross.
