I'm willing to wait. I think the G2 technology is revolutionary and extends the life of two strokes. I'll leave it at that.

Torque, torque and more torque, emission efficiency is a green world (that can get crazy) plus fuel efficiency is why I like the new G2. Overall, they have hit the bullseye on reliability but expect someone to respond they know of a third cousins friend who has nothing but trouble with their G2.

My wifes brother said his best friends dads cousin said that he his G2's is junk. He is a sales guy at Mercury and knows his stuff. Just sayin........

Deepanchor - I couldn't agree with you more. I have ran mostly Mercs my whole boating life and the G2 on my 1980 is my first. I am super impressed with the motor so far. Super quite, plenty of torq and out right sips the fuel. I had a Opt 75HP at one point and my G2 uses less gas than that did. Plus I love the look of my white boat and white rude hanging on the back.

Hey there Jimbug, have you trailered the boat yet with that cover, and if so, any problems ?

Yes, I trailered it from Cleveland, TN on I-75 to Chattanooga with a wet cover at about 65mph with no problems. Wanted to leave the cover on it until they could get to the installations. Cover might keep the sun and pollen and prying eyes off of it.

Finally out of the shop today where I added Evinrude foot throttle, Evinrude E-link, blinker trim, oxygenator, livewell light, Solix 10 SI with LakeMaster on a Ram mount (turns to bow). Weather was cool and misting at 4pm, but wife and I braved it and made a 20 mile round trip to look at a lake house she likes from the water. Water was choppy and then a few white caps around the nuclear plant, but cruised in the upper 30’s MPH to 50 MPH with wife sitting on the small middle box with her back to the wind. Boat performed perfectly and I could have pushed it even more. Foot throttle took no getting used to or the blinker trim (easy peasy). It’s not a real post without photos so here are a few. Will post more when we get it out in a couple days in the sun.

Ok, so I’m a little bored watching it rain today. Need to repurpose my Vexus Money Bag to hold fishing baits. What should I put the Vexus, Evinrude, MinnKota, DualPro, and SeaStar manuals in? An old tri-fold Lexus leather manual holder from my daughter’s now deceased RX300. Took out the Lexus stuff an inserted the Vexus stuff:

Finally got out in the Vexus 1980 with my wife again in better weather. We mostly toured and graphed Parksville Lake today, and I made a couple of fast runs to check top speed. Half tank of gas, light load, and top speed was 58mph on the Solix 10. It was breezy with other boat wakes, and the lake is small so let off pretty soon when I got to 58mph. Gas was floored on the Evinrude foot pedal and trimmed pretty high. The more I drive it, the more I like it. I love driving in 4000-5000rpm range, but it accelerates fast from there if you want to scoot a little faster.

I filled it to half full on the gas gauge which is where I started on my first trip back on 03/28. So, after two trips of approximately 24 mile each it took 7 gallons. Or 3.5gallons per trip. G2 150HP sips the fuel. I’m using 100% gasoline at 87 octane. I’ll add some 100XD oil to the engine tomorrow to see what it takes.

Lovely day for a boat ride:

I throw this out there for anyone wondering if the vehicle they have will pull any of these AVX models. I have the AVX1980/G2 which weighs approximately 3000lbs as a package with trailer. I’m towing it with a 2002 Lexus RX300 AWD 3.0L V6 engine with factory tow package (includes transmission cooler) and 4 wheel disc brakes. It tows it like a dream. The surge brakes really work well. Oh course, my wife’s 2007 V8 Suburban tows it even better like any V8 truck would.

My fishing buddy and I finally got on the water to fish out of my new Vexus 1980. We ate lunch with my wife and his mother, and then met up after that and headed to Chickamauga Lake. Slow start as we spent an hour or more getting the Solix 2D tuned in like he likes it. Still some work to do to be able to see the drop shot better for “video fishing”. Hot, still, and sunny...first three stops nada. Fourth spot was pretty good (wind picked up) with a dozen bass and then they were done. A nice 6lb LM bass for my buddy. Tried our 5th spot where I caught a 9lber 4/10/19 out of his boat. Nada. Back to 4th spot again, and they were waiting for us. Caught about 75 bass & stripe combined until a couple hours before dark, and we were beat..time to head in.

Passed a white Vexus 1980/white G2 just like mine who was working down a bank and waved. My G2 stalled a couple times today. It doesn’t seem to like it when you are going slow in gear and then try to take off. Wouldn’t restart a couple times until we gave it a short rest like it was flooded. Will keep and eye on it to see if it becomes a nuisance. Tested it out on some pretty big waves today and it did great.
