Well, I did it! Bought a Vexus AVX1980 from Bay Marine

We had been looking for a lake house, so I was holding off on buying a new Vexus. The lake house we liked the best (location, year around water), just needed too much work and a new dock. So, we declined and moved on. My wife said if we couldn’t find a lake house we liked and could afford, we should just buy the new Vexus. So, I looked to see where a white one with the Evinrude G2 could be located and found one at Bay Marine in Kennesaw, GA.

Drove down Monday (25th) and made a deal on it. Picked it up Thursday, quick test drive on Allatoona and drove it home. Registered it Friday and got a 7 wire connection added to my Lexus RX300 AWD. Took it out on a very windy Saturday, and it handled those wind blown waves like a champ. Did 55mph on Allatoona with 2 people, and 62mph on the boat’s speedometer with just me Saturday. That was probably 57 or so real speed if I had a GPS. The boat came with no graphs. I ordered a Solix 10 SI after riding with Jeremy (met here) in his Vexus and seeing his Solix 10 SI in action. Loved the touch screen easy navigation.

Put a 40# bag of ice in the cooler Saturday pm, and ice was still just half way down this Monday morning. Drinks still ice cold! I told Jeremy that I thought everyone on here was exaggerating how well it drove:-) We both now know it was no exaggeration. Color me a happy Vexus owner!

Congrats on your purchase. Looking real serious at the same boat, glad to hear the positive feedback.

But keep on looking for that lake home. It's often just a waiting game for the right property to come on the retail market. Thankfully most real estate listing are often found on the internet.

Hey wait a minute! You live on Wilson Lake or Wilson Tailwater? That’s my favorite place on earth to fish for big smallmouth. Had some great trips there from 1982 to 1992. Two biggest smallies were 6lb14oz & 7lb12oz

Congrats, no doubt you will like it more each time you take it out. I know I sure do.

No exaggeration on the ride and performance. Honestly, I think it gets better every time I go out. I was out this weekend on a warm Virginia day, a lot more pleasure boaters were on the water and the Vexus ride was awesome with all the wakes.

More to come...I grew up in the age of the strip tease so you’ll have to be patient. Electronics on the way, and I want to get a good shot on beautiful Parksville Lake, but this is what it looked like the last day I was out:

Tackle Ware***** cardboard box was an expensive option to keep water from pooling near the ladder.

    Come-on Evinrude, come out with a 135HOG2 and I'll buy a 1880 in white.

    Like that theme.

Don't give up on that desire for a lake home. My wife and I bought ours about 4 years ago and it took 2 years of weekend work to make it livable. We still have projects to complete including re-decking one of two docks and I will caution you that waterfront living has some expenses! But this evening after work I went out for 90 minutes into our creek and hooked and broke off one striper and caught three largemouths. The photo is from Friday night. Beats sitting in front of the TV after work!

Yes, good advice! If we find one it will be our third lake house. First in 1984 we built a passive solar house with pool on Chickamauga, and then in 1994 we bought a lake house on Watts Bar lake after selling the first one. We love it at the lake, and hope to get back there.

Dropped AVX1980 off at Chattanooga Fish-N-Fun to have them install the Evinrude hotfoot, Blinker Trim, Solix 10 SI, Oxygenator, Livewell light, and spare tire lock. More photos of the boat when it’s finished, but in the meantime here’s a 5.76lb & 6.63lb spotted bass caught on float ‘n fly 01/25/2019.
